This assignment was a Blackboard posting where we were to assess our personal leadership skills as well as our peers' feedback on their perception of our leadership skills.
1. Assess your role within the cohort? Did you choose this role or was this role assigned? Explain.
I consider that I play different roles in this cohort at different times. The majority of the time I play "comic relief". I also feel that I provide the leadership role, during times that I feel are "comfortable". I found that sometimes I have avoided leardership so that I can also avoid conflict because this group has so many leaders. This is a very diverse cohort with so many wonderfully strong personalities. I believe that I chose the role of class clown for many different reasons. I played the role of class clown as a defense mechanism and out of habit. I had a "comfortable" high school experience with friends and a great social life due to my ability to make people laugh. I find that when I enter new experiences it is like second nature to assume this role.
2. Describe your leadership qualities.
I feel that my leadership qualities include my sense of humor and that I am compassionate and want to see the other members of my group succeed.
3. Assess what leadership roles you have and haven't taken within the cohort. Why did you make the choices you did to lead or not lead?
I made the choice to lead or not to lead as I mentioned above. This is a very diverse cohort with a lot of strong personalities and it was easier to allow others to lead. I lead when I felt it was "comfortable" usually during organizing social gatherings and inside of smaller groups where a strong leader was not already defined.
4. Assess the possibilities for leadership in the cohort environment; how will you choose to respond to these possibilities? What risks are there?
I believe that the possibilities are good for anyone to lead in this cohort. I will choose to lead sometimes outside of my comfort zone. I think that the risks at this point will be minimum because of the short time that we have left and the bonds that we have created and people have strong support systems within the cohort.
